Testing guidelines for online course

Taking graded assignments in an online class is different in the difficulties of monitoring the student.  As such, this course uses Honor lock, which is proctoring software to monitor the student.  This software requires the student to provide an ID and show a scan of the testing environment.  The software flags any behavior by the student that is likely to be associated with cheating.  Longwood University has vetted Honorlock software and determined the software does meet acceptable use standards, privacy standards and secure.  Honorlock must be used by all students on all graded assignments.    For more information, click HERE or visit Honorlock.com

  • Honorlock is not a live proctoring-service, you do not need to schedule an appointment with Honorlock in advance
  • Requires the use of Google Chrome.  Be sure that have the Honorlock Chrome Extension (honorlock.com/extension/install)

Guidelines/instructions for taking any graded assignment via CANVAS.  Students must

  • Be seated at a table or desk in a well-lit area, directly facing their webcam and in a location where you won’t be interrupted
  • Remain at your desk or workstation for the duration of the test
  • Turn off all mobile devices, phones, etc.
  • Clear your desk of all external materials — books, papers, other computers, or devices
  • Keep webcam on during entire exam or may not receive credit for the exam.
  • Webcam must be adjusted so that the students entire face can be seen.
  • May not wear headphones, ear pods, hats, hoodies, sunglasses, etc.
  • Student may not wear or position anything that might be distractive or an attempt to hide the student’s identity.
  • May not take assignments or allow assignments to be taken by others.  This is a blatant violation of the Longwood honor code and violators will receive an “F” for the course and be recommended for expulsion from Longwood University and student’s respective high school.
  • Make sure your webcam is plugged in or enabled before clicking “Take the Exam”
  • When you are ready, click “Take your Exam” to start the authentication process
  • If you are asked for an access code, it means you are not in Google Chrome or do not have the Honorlock Chrome Extension installed
  • Know that you will be recorded during the assessment to ensure you’re using only permitted resources
  • Honorlock will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications; you will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted

Anyone violating any of the above polices will be considered to be in violation of Longwood’s honor code which may result in a grade of “F” being assigned for the course and/or recommended expulsion.
