Getting started

For those just registering, please be patient.  It will take a couple of business days before you receive your Longwood email and CANVAS credentials. In the meantime, please read the attached syllabus, welcome letter and watch short video about the course https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhY6zZ1-QMc .  Don’t panic, your first graded assignment is not due until September 19 (see dates at bottom of this email).

In terms of your Longwood credentials, please be sure and check your email spam folder.

    • Faculty members cannot help you with your passwords, or technical issues with CANVAS or Honorlock. So if you email, we are going to refer you to a number or email below.
    • For help with email, call 434-395-4357 or email helpdesk@longwood.edu

Students are expected to check their Longwood and CANVAS announcements on a daily basis or else you may be missing important information.

If you have questions about the syllabus, please ask, it is our contract for the course!!!

  • Also make sure that you have all required materials including textbook and financial calculator (see syllabus)
  • You may also start viewing the course content, viewing lectures and taking practice quizzes all which are found at http://www.drbenniewaller.com (password: FINA150).
  • Once again, I want to reiterate that this is an asynchronous online course which means that students will need to work independently (without continuous direction) on course material and taking graded assignments. Students may work ahead on assignments, however may NOT complete any assignments after the due date.
I realize that taking a college course is new to you all, as such, you may not know fully what to expect.  If you are not ready, for whatever reason, to tackle a college level course, it is completely understandable as expectations are significantly different than in high school.  One such difference is that the student must communicate with the faculty and NOT the parents.  This is a course offered by a 4-year college and taught by University professors with PhD faculty, not a junior college course taught at the high school.  As such, you are expected to read and follow instructions and  take initiative to solve your problem before sending an email. That is, we will treat you like a Longwood student, not a high school student.
This is an online course which may prove for a workload even more demanding than a face-to-face class in that the student must be a self-directed learner, motivated, disciplined and must stay on top of their workload. It has been shown that the most successful online students tend to share the following characteristics:
• Self-motivation/self-starter
• Good organization and time-management skills
• Familiar with computers and the Internet
• Resourceful and actively seek answers and solutions to questions and problems
Creating an ID for Honor lock – You must have an ID in order to take graded assignments.  If you don’t have an ID, you can make one on your own.  https://youtu.be/Pb58MLFiHyo. A more extensive overview of honorlock is provide at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI6dtREwO9o

PAYING FOR THE COURSE – For Henrico students ONLY, you may pay for the course at your High School.  I was told “Anyone that can receipt can accept payment“. It is listed as Longwood EPF $50.

No one will be dropped from the course for any reason. However, please note that transcripts will not be released until all tuition and fees have been paid.

GOOGLE CHROME is recommended for taking graded assignments in order to avoid technical issues. No consideration will be given for any technical issues or mishaps due to using another browser.
